I don't think this show and whole idea of everything 24 can end without him dying. This season he wants to get out of it all, but again, it is all around him. The series and movie and everything can't end unless he dies. But I don't want him to die!!!

I know what you mean! I would HATE to see Jack die, but you know it's best for the show (and for closure) that he does.
If he does die, it definitely MUST top the epic deaths that have taken place over the past 7 seasons. This is JACK we're talking about, so it would have to literally blow us away.
Assuming he dies in the end, I think the best way for it to play out would be for him to sacrifice himself for Teri -- not hundreds of thousands of people from a nuclear bomb or anything along those lines. How cliched & anticlimactic would that be? What better way than for Jack to give his life for a loved one (Season 1 style) & have the show come full circle?
Preferably, we'll have a Season 9 to take pleasure in, & it will involve a more personal threat to Jack like Season 1 did. The final season should take 24 back to its roots IMO. It should start at Midnight & end at Midnight, & should take place in LA.

I don't think it makes any sense to kill Jack off at the end. How are they going to transition into a movie then? Maybe he'll retire....again. I do think it should return to LA though.

Why don't you think it makes sense for them to kill Jack?

Well what's he going to do, come back as a ghost in the movie?

No, I mean in the VERY end, whether that be the movie or Season 9.

Oh, I thought you meant the show, not the movie. It just seems like after everything that's happened that it would be nice to see something good happen to him in the end.

I go back and forth on this one....almost hourly. Sometimes I think he should die at the very end....it seems anti-24 for him not to.
But at other times, I really think he should get some sort of happy ending. Lately, I have leaned towards that more and more after seeing him so happy in the first ep of this season. I mean, this poor man. He deserves something.

I see what you mean. It does seem that if he doesn't die, he couldn't have a happy ending because you know he's going to get dragged back in.

...he couldn't have a happy ending because you know he's going to get dragged back in. That's the big dilemma. Maybe Jack and his family -- namely, Renee & Lil Teri (I say Kim & Hubby die before the end) -- move out of the country at the end of the series? Then, Jack has no reason to "get back into it."
